Watch life of pi free online megashare movie#.If you're a fan of summer blockbusters, there are no special effects, or hardcore action sequences, but I feel that it is a complete and wonderful movie without them. Also, a must see for any fans of Richard Burton, or Peter O'Toole. I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys classical, or Shakespearian style films. Overall Review: Beckett is an excellent movie, with great acting, an interesting story and a quality score. This lends authenticity to the movie and was a wise choice by the director. I believe most scenes were filmed in actual English castles. Set Design: Sets for the movie never gave me pause in believing that they were fake in any way. The overall style and look was appropriate though. Today I would expect to see more dirt and signs of wear on everyone but the King and Archbishop. Being a movie from 1964, most of the costumes looked freshly laundered and taken right off the coat rack, but that was normal for the time. It was not particularly good or bad.Ĭostuming/Makeup: The costumes and makeup in the movie were well done. Worthy of the Oscar Nomination that it garnered.Ĭinematography: The cinematography in this movie was not notable. Very appropriate to the setting, and to the emotions of each scene. He wrote a fully orchestral score fraught with its own themes and flourishes. The composer was Laurence Rosenthal, a somewhat unknown composer with a lot of potential. I couldn't place the composer right away, but drew immediate comparison to John Williams and Jerry Goldsmith. Music: The score in this film was noticeable right from the start. Again the Shakespearian like characters are the key to the success of this movie. But when he is made Archbishop, he takes the position seriously and truly devotes himself to God, even at the cost of his friendship, and his life.
He tries to keep his friend Henry out of trouble as his friend, then advisor. Becket is the more cerebral and level headed character. He uses his friend Becket like tool to gain power within the church, and when Becket turns on him, Henry decides to dispose of him, like a child who is done with an old toy. He plots and schemes to make sure he gets his way, and when things don't turn out in his favor, he throws a temper tantrum. Henry II is shown as a King who is more interested in chasing women and hanging out with his friends than running a Kingdom. He plays with such fervor and zeal, that it makes the movie worth watching, solely for his performance.Ĭharacter Development: As stated earlier, the strength of this movie lays within the character development.
He plays his hot tempered griping as well as he plays the remorseful contemplative side of his character. Peter O'Toole gave a stunning performance as the man-child Henry II. As good as Richard Burton was, I believe he was outshone by Peter O'Toole. Passion and sincerity in his character, and you can feel and see the transformation from the a young drinking buddy, to the King's advisor, and eventually to a man of God. Richard Burton portrays the morally straight and subdued character of Thomas Becket. The storyline is simple, but almost Shakespearean in that it relies on the interaction of well developed characters to drive the plot.Īcting: The acting of Richard Burton and Peter O'Toole is nothing short of stupendous. As such the plot gives an interesting look at a period of history not often studies in High School. The Plot: "Becket" is based on the true story of Henry II and Thomas Becket. As Becket takes his duties with the Church seriously, he finds himself increasingly at odds with the King, who finally orders the death of his once-close companion when he continues to defy the throne. Synopsis: Becket is the true story of the friendship between King Henry II (Peter O'Toole) and Thomas Becket (Richard Burton), a royal courtier and confidant whom Henry appoints as Archbishop of Canterbury.
